Special Purpose Lamps E40 | G13 | Rx7s Base

  • Special-purpose lamps are designed for specific tasks when regular light sources are insufficient due to specific requirements. In this category of lamps, three of the most popular base types are distinguished: E40, G13, and Rx7s, each adapted for different lighting systems, with unique features and advantages.

  • 1. E40 Lamps

Base: E40 (Edison with a diameter of 40 mm)

    Purpose:
E40 lamps are most commonly used in industrial, commercial, or outdoor lighting systems where extremely bright light is required. They are also used for high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, such as metal halide (MH), high-pressure sodium (HPS), or mercury vapor (MV) lamps.

    Characteristics:

    Power: 150W – 1000W
Luminous Flux: Up to 130,000 lumens (depending on lamp type)
    Lifespan: 15,000 – 24,000 hours
Application Areas: Outdoor lighting, sports arenas, street lighting, factories, warehouses.
    Comparisons:

Advantages: Very high luminous flux, excellent for illuminating large spaces, resistant to various climate conditions.
Disadvantages: Relatively high energy consumption, high heat emissions, requires a special ballast system.
    2. G13 Lamps

Base: G13 (two contacts spaced 13 mm apart)

    Purpose:
The G13 base is standard for T8 fluorescent and LED T8 lamps. These lamps are widely used in both residential and commercial spaces where economical and efficient lighting is required.

    Characteristics:

Power: 9W – 58W (LEDs may be lower in power but more efficient)
    Luminous Flux: 800 – 5200 lumens
Lifespan: Fluorescent – approximately 10,000 – 15,000 hours; LED lamps – up to 50,000 hours.
Application Areas: Offices, schools, hospitals, residential homes, shopping centers.
    Comparisons:

Advantages: LED versions are highly energy-efficient, have a long lifespan, and turn on quickly without flickering.
Disadvantages: Fluorescent lamps have a shorter lifespan and are more sensitive to temperature changes and frequent on/off cycling.
    3. Rx7s Lamps

Base: Rx7s (two contacts with a locking mechanism)

    Purpose:
The Rx7s base is most commonly used in halogen metal halide or high-pressure sodium lamps. These lamps are excellent for both indoor and outdoor lighting when extremely bright light with directional radiation is needed.

    Characteristics:

    Power: 70W – 2000W
Luminous Flux: 6,000 – 200,000 lumens (depending on lamp type)
    Lifespan: 12,000 – 20,000 hours
Application Areas: Architectural lighting, sports fields, display lighting, theater stage lighting, construction floodlights.
    Comparisons:

Advantages: Very concentrated luminous flux, suitable for specific lighting tasks requiring an extremely bright and powerful light source.
Disadvantages: Relatively high energy consumption and heat generation, requires heat management.
    Conclusions:
E40 lamps are most suitable for large-scale lighting projects where a powerful and durable lighting system is required. They are efficient in industrial and outdoor lighting systems but require a higher energy input.
G13 lamps represent an economical choice, commonly used in home and office lighting. Their LED variants feature a long lifespan and energy savings.
Rx7s lamps are primarily used for specific lighting purposes, such as architectural or stage lighting, where extremely bright and directional light is needed.
